Olivia looked over at Alex, who had already climbed into bed. Olivia was on her way there herself, just as soon as she finished changing. Unlike Alex, who was prepared, Olivia had needed to finish wrapping her presents before she could go to bed. "What are you so happy about?" Olivia asked, eyeing the huge grin on Alex's face.

"Just thinking," Alex said.

"About anything in particular?"

"Yep," Alex said. "And if you hurry up I'll tell you." I'll also show you something, she thought to herself.

"I'm coming," Olivia said, pretending to pout. "You did want wrapped Christmas presents, didn't you?"

"I suppose so," Alex said, feigning exasperation. "Though if you were a little more organised, you'd have had them wrapped already."

"That's my goal for my next life," Olivia said with a laugh. Just a moment or two later, Olivia slid into bed next to Alex. As Alex turned on her side to face Olivia and Olivia put her left arm around Alex to pull her close, she was surprised when her arm touched bare skin. "I thought you said you'd wrapped all my presents?" Olivia said with a grin as she ran her hands down Alex's back, dragging her fingertips down Alex's spine.

"Decided to leave one as a surprise," Alex said, throwing her right leg over Olivia's body as she leaned in for a kiss.

As their kiss broke apart and Alex pulled Olivia's nightshirt over her head, Olivia said, "You should have told me not to bother."

"Didn't want to ruin the surprise," Alex said with a grin before yelping in surprise as Olivia quickly rolled them both and pinned Alex beneath her. Olivia never ceased to amaze and surprise her in bed. She could go from being submissive to dominant in a heartbeat and Alex could tell that tonight she wanted control and Alex would give it to her. There was so little Olivia could control on a day-to-day basis at work, and when she needed to, she seized control of whatever she could.

"Been too long," Olivia said, leaning down for another kiss as she cupped Alex's right breast in her hand.

"I'm sorry, this week..." Alex started to say, before she was silenced by Olivia's lips covering every inch of her own as their tongues met and wrestled for control, Alex finally winning that battle.

"Shut up, Cabot," Olivia said as the kiss broke off. "Anyone ever tell you that you talk too much?" she teased.

Alex giggled before involuntarily arching her back, giving Olivia easier access to the sweet spot at the base of her neck, which Olivia quickly attacked with her teeth and tongue.

After one final nip to Alex's neck, Olivia slowly moved down Alex's body, replacing her hands with her lips and tongue as she gently sucked on Alex's right breast while darting her tongue across the already erect nipple.

"Liv, you're torturing me," Alex said, her fingers tangled in Olivia's hair.

"Tell me what you want," Olivia said, peering up at Alex. With that, she moved from Alex's right breast to her left, repeating the process.

"Touch me," Alex said breathlessly.

"I am touching you," Olivia teased, resting her chin between Alex's breasts as she placed her right index finger against Alex's lips.

"Tease," Alex said, capturing Olivia's finger and sucking gently on it.

"Never," Olivia said,

Olivia rose up on all fours and slid further down Alex's body, leaving a trail of warm, moist kisses in her wake. "I think you got the idea," Alex said, releasing Olivia's finger.

"Show me," she said, abruptly stopping her kisses at Alex's waist and looking up at Alex again. "I want to make sure I get it right."

Alex quickly complied, slipping her hand between her legs.

"Here?" Olivia asked, deliberately missing the spot that Alex had indicated.

"Here," Alex said firmly, taking Olivia's right hand in hers and placing it firmly atop her warm, moist centre.

"Oh, there," Olivia said innocently as she slipped two fingers inside Alex, resting her thumb on Alex's already swollen clit. She shifted her weight onto her left arm and leaned forward, taking Alex's left breast in her mouth.

"Oh, Liv," Alex said, arching her back, trying to take in more of Olivia's hand and offer more of her breast.

As Alex drew closer to her climax, Olivia flicked her tongue across Alex's left breast one last time before switching to her right breast as she gently slipped a third finger inside Alex, feeling the crush of Alex's muscles on her fingers almost instantly.

Olivia released Alex's breast from her mouth and dipped her head, slowly running her tongue up the middle of Alex's torso from her navel to the hollow at the base of her throat. "Oh, Liv!" Alex cried out as the first waves of her orgasm rippled through her lower body.

When Olivia felt Alex's muscles ease up on her fingers, she slowly withdrew them. She dragged her fingers across Alex's body, leaving a sticky trail in their wake. Finally, she pressed her fingers to Alex's lips and kissed her through them, enjoying the feeling of Alex's tongue as it slipped through her fingers to meet her tongue and explore her lips.

Olivia shifted her weight again so she was lying directly on top of Alex, their bodies touching from knee to chest. Olivia looked down into the crystal clear blue eyes of her lover and said "Merry Christmas, Alex," before their lips and tongues met for a long, deep kiss.

Olivia opened her eyes and looked at the clock. 3:12 AM. She had yet to fall asleep, though she was tired. After a quick shower to clean up following their earlier fun, she and Alex had gone immediately back to bed. Alex had fallen asleep in her arms, but Olivia just could not fall asleep. She'd already crept out of bed to put the presents beneath the tree and had tried some warm milk, but that hadn't helped.

She slowly rolled over, not wanting to disturb Alex, but thinking that curling up to her might help. When she rolled over, she was surprised to see that Alex was awake. After her initial surprise, Olivia asked softly, "What's the matter?"

"Nothing," Alex said with a smile. "Just watching you," she added as she wrapped her arm around Olivia's waist. They were both naked, not having bothered with pajamas following their shower.

"Fallen asleep at all yet?"

"For a few minutes earlier, but I've been awake now for a while."

Olivia nodded, "Pair of insomniacs we are." After a few moment's pause as she studied the face of her lover in the moonlight she added, "You've got something on your mind."

Alex nodded.

"Want to talk about it?" Olivia asked, reaching over and tucking a stray lock of hair behind Alex's ear.

Alex ran her fingers up and down Olivia's spine, enjoying the feeling of her cool, smooth skin under her fingers while Olivia reached for Alex's left hand with hers. Olivia would wait until Alex was ready to talk.

After a few moments' silence, Alex started, "I was just thinking about something you said to Elliot tonight."

"Anything specific?" Olivia asked, squeezing Alex's hand as she interlaced her fingers with Alex's. She and Elliot had talked throughout the evening, as usual, and she couldn't recall anything off the top of her head that stood out.

Alex nodded. "You two were in the kitchen cleaning up and I was about to come back in with the tray of glasses. Elliot said he'd never seen you so happy. And you said this year you finally had a balance. Although you've always had a stressful job you had great co-workers and now you had a wonderful home life as well and I...I admit I'm glad to be a part of that," Alex said.

Olivia was shocked, she never thought Alex had to overhear a discussion with Elliot to know how important she was. Olivia let go of Alex's hand and put her arm around Alex's back to pull her close. "Babe, you're not a part of that, you are that. You are, without a doubt, the best thing to happen to me. I always thought you knew that."

"I know you love me, don't ever think I didn't," Alex said, snuggling up to Olivia. "But there was something special about hearing you tell someone else. It just made me feel really good."

"I'm glad," Olivia said. "After all you've done for me, I'm glad I could do that for you. And I...I cannot tell you how happy I am to have you in my life."

Alex nodded, "That goes both ways." With her free hand, she reached up and tucked a stray lock of Olivia's hair behind her ear. "And I think the timing was part of it...the past few weeks, between being sick and seemingly trying to set a record for hours worked, have just been hard so hearing that was just wonderful."

Olivia nodded, "Yeah, these past two weeks..." She shook her head. "But they're over and we have this weekend."

Alex nodded. "I love you, Liv," she said. "And I can't wait to spend Christmas with you. To wake up and open our presents and..."

"And just spend the day, together. I love you too, babe." After a moment or two of silence, she continued, "In order to wake up, we have to go to sleep first. Want to try to get some sleep?"

Alex nodded, stifling a yawn. She felt more relaxed now. Felt that maybe sleep would come.

As Olivia woke up, she felt a light weight pressed against her chest; something resting on the sheet covering her bare breasts. Her eyes still closed, she raised her left hand and found the back of Alex's head. Absent-mindedly, she began to run her fingers through Alex's soft blonde hair. When she finally opened her eyes, she saw Alex looking up at her. "Morning," she said softly.

"Merry Christmas, Liv," Alex said, smiling at the site of Olivia's eyes, still clouded with sleep. She'd been up for a while but hadn't wanted to wake Olivia yet. She was content to watch her sleep, she looked so peaceful. No thoughts of perps or struggles with inner demons to worry her.

"Merry Christmas," Olivia said, her voice still thick with sleep. The room was bright, and she had a feeling she'd slept later than she had in a long time. She wasn't surprised; it had been a long few weeks. Her eyes had started to grow heavy and close again, when she felt Alex shift from on top of her. "Stay," she mumbled.

"I want to show you something," Alex said softly, extending a hand to Olivia.

"Can I see it from bed?" Olivia murmured.

"Maybe," Alex acknowledged. "But it's better up close." Sensing Olivia's hesitation, she continued, "I promise, it's worth getting up for."

Olivia smiled sleepily at that and started to sit up.

Reaching beside the bed, Alex pulled up a wrapped box and passed it to Olivia. "Open this first."

"Aren't we going to open them under the tree?" Olivia asked.

"Most of them, yes," Alex said. "But this one's different."

"OK," Olivia said as she slowly unwrapped the box. She lifted the lid and pushed aside the tissue paper to reveal a pale blue pair of pajamas that she recognised from the Victoria's Secret catalogue. "You found them!" she exclaimed, remembering their search earlier in the month only to find out they were on back order until after the holidays.

"Last pair at Chestnut Hill Mall," Alex said. Seeing the confused expression on Olivia's face, she continued, "Massachusetts. I enlisted Becky's help."

"Thank you," Olivia said. "They're perfect," she added as she slipped the silky pants and top over her bare skin. Olivia ran a silk-covered hand down Alex's cheek as she leaned in for a kiss.

As the kiss broke off, Alex said, "Perfect is your naked body, but I'm glad this is an acceptable second."

Olivia blushed at that. She knew she'd taken good care of her body over the years, but perfect was one word she'd never thought to use. When she looked at her naked form in the mirror, she saw not only her toned arms and legs, but also the slight sag of her breasts. She liked hearing how Alex saw her. "Thank you," she said softly. "I needed that."

"You're welcome," Alex said. "Now come on," she said as she stood, pulling Olivia to a standing position next to her. "Close your eyes," she said.

"How can I see it if..."

"You'll see it, just close your eyes first."

Olivia complied and felt Alex's hands on her hips as she steered her forward. When Olivia felt the slight draft of cold air, she knew they were in front of the window. Alex always liked to leave the window open a crack, said it helped her to sleep easier. Alex guided her hands to the windowsill and placed her own hands on top of Olivia's. Olivia could feel Alex's breasts pressing against her back as she hooked her chin over her right shoulder.

"Open up," Alex whispered softly into Olivia's ear.

Olivia did as she asked and gasped at the sight of the snow-covered trees outside the second floor window. The cars parked along the street and the sidewalks were covered with two or three inches of snow and it was still falling. "I didn't even know it was going to snow," Olivia said.

"Me either," Alex said. "I guess Santa had a surprise for all of New York."

"When did it start?"

"Don't know. I saw it when I woke up about an hour ago. It stopped for a bit and then started up again. It's been so long since I saw a White Christmas."

"Same here," Olivia admitted. "The City is pretty when covered in snow."

"I love New York at all times, but especially in Winter," Alex agreed. She moved her hands from atop Olivia's and wrapped her arms around Olivia's stomach.

"This is the perfect Christmas," Olivia said, leaning back against Alex's chest. "Just us, no work to interrupt us. Maybe we could make a fire?"

"That's exactly what I had in mind," Alex said. "Just us, our presents, a warm fire, a bottle of wine…"

"Or three," Olivia said with a smile.

"C'mon. Let's go see what Santa left us."

An hour later the fire was roaring and they were nearly done with their presents. Olivia had bought Alex two DVDs, some CDs, a few books and a gorgeous pen and paper set. She'd had the paper personalised with Alex's initials and Alex absolutely loved it. "Thank you so much, Liv," Alex said, planting a soft kiss on Olivia's forehead.

"You're welcome," Olivia said. Alex had bought her a few books and CDs, a new scarf that went perfectly with her black jacket and two tickets to an upcoming concert. "How on earth did you get these?" Olivia asked, knowing the concert had been sold out for months.

Alex smiled, "I've had them all along, it took a lot to keep them from you for so long."

"I'm glad you did," Olivia said, leaning over to kiss Alex. "Means less time to be impatient until the actual concert as well." As their kiss broke off, Olivia admitted nervously, "There's actually one more thing." She reached around the far side of the tree to a small box she'd stashed there. Wrapping her fingers around it, she took a deep breath and wordlessly passed it to Alex. She didn't think she'd ever been this nervous about presenting a gift, but then again she wasn't sure she had ever given anyone such a gift before. Nervously, she looked up at Alex as Alex carefully unwrapped the silver paper.

Alex untaped the paper and took it off, revealing a small velvet jewellery box. She carefully snapped the box open to reveal a delicate gold chain. Attached to the chain was a small gold circular pendant with three stones; an emerald on the left, a sapphire on the right, and a smaller turquoise stone where the two met at the bottom. "Oh, Liv," Alex said, a tear falling down her cheek. Two more quickly followed as Alex gently lifted the necklace from the box, her hand shaking as she did so.

"Look at the back," Olivia said, her voice thick with emotion.

Alex turned the pendant over and in small writing was "You. Me. Us." Suddenly, Alex realised what the turquoise was. "It's beautiful," she said, holding it close to examine every detail. She un-did the clasp and placed it around her neck. The chain and pendant lay perfectly flat, just below the hollow at the base of Alex's neck, right where Olivia had hoped it would. "I love it," Alex said, tears flowing freely down her cheeks, She didn't try to stop them. She was touched; she could scarcely remember ever receiving such a thoughtful gift from someone.

"I'm glad you like it," Olivia said. "I got the idea and hoped you would."

"I do. I love it." Wiping her eyes with the back of her hand, Alex said, "And you're not the only one with one more gift." Alex pulled a small box from behind her pile of gifts and said "One more for you."

Olivia unwrapped the red paper to reveal a jewellery box. Carefully snapping it open, she found a small gold band with two triangular stones set into it. The sapphire was on top, the emerald on the bottom and in the middle where the two met, a sliver of turquoise. Olivia looked up at met Alex's gaze. "This is beautiful," she said, choking back the tears. She slid it on her left ring finger, a perfect fit.

"It's engraved," Alex said softly.

Olivia slid it off and carefully held the band up. Written on the inside in a delicate script was one word. Forever.
