DISCLAIMER: Popular is the intellectual property of Ryan Murphy. I simply dabble in his sandbox, make his characters gay for each other and enjoy the turn on that follows.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is for splendid_it, who requested: "This is not going to end well." Again, this was supposed to be comedic, but now that I've reread it, I think it's actually kinda lame and I really don't like it much at all.

Really, Now

The race to the top had been the easy part. Once their gym teacher egged them on, Brooke and Sam did the best they could to beat one another as they climbed the rope to the top of the gym roof. It was so old school, so funny that they had to stop as they both made it to the top and just laugh at one another.

"This is not going to end well," Brooke practically whispered, looking down as she did so and closing her eyes tightly. Everybody was standing below them, cat calling, yelling and continuing to try and work up the competitive nature of the two. It worked in the beginning but now the return trip was proving to be more difficult, despite the encouragement from the audience below.

"Really, now," Sam began, "How did we get ourselves into this predicament? We're supposed to be smarter than this." Sam's arms were burning, she could feel the rope digging into her skin, but there was no way she was going down without Brooke.

"We're obviously not that smart if we let those bunch of neanderthals convince us this was a good idea," Brooke added, trying to adjust her grip. "Should we start heading down now?"

"That'd probably be a good start," Sam nodded, she tried to inch her way down but found it more difficult to go that way than up.

"Come on, Sam," Brooke said, reaching out to touch her arm slightly. Sam just stared at her in disbelief.

"How'd you do that?" Sam was amazed.

"How'd I do what?" Brooke was puzzled.

"How are you not falling to the ground right now?"

"Oh, you just have to hold yourself in place with your legs," Brooke sort of shrugged.

"Oh." Brooke laughed out loud as she looked down at Sam's legs and realized she was using all the upper body strength she had to keep herself from getting rope burn on the way down.
