Just a Night
By Paige Halliwell

Gabrielle smiled and breathed out a contented sigh, she curled deeper into Xena's inviting body and started to run her fingers up and down the former Conqueror's smooth and tanned skin.

"Gabrielle…" Xena groaned, playfully, "haven't you had enough?"

The bard let out an easy laugh, "I've never had enough of you, my Warrior," her tone turned suggestive, "you should know that by now."

"You. Are. Insatiable." She punctuated each word with a lingering kiss on the nape of Gabrielle's neck. Just as the young Amazon Queen started letting out moans of pleasure, Xena pulled away and planted a chaste kiss on her cheek. She then rolled over to her side of the makeshift bed and closed her eyes, "good night."

Gabrielle lay frozen for a moment before letting out an annoyed cry, "Xena!"

Lazily, the former Destroyer of Nations opened one eye, "yes?"

"You better get your butt over here and finish what you started or -"

"Technically, you started it."

"And you continued it," countered Gabrielle.

"And now I'm ending it."

"Xena…" Gabrielle's mouth fell into a playful pout, "are you sure you don't want to just finish it?"

"Gabrielle, you know we can't, we -"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. We're still a few days ride away from the Amazon village and Ephiny won't be pleased if we're not there at least a week in advance for her joining with Solari."

"Especially as you're performing the ceremony and have no idea what to say."

Gabrielle feigned hurt, "you wound me, Xena! I am a bard, am I not?"

"Well…" Xena caught the fiery look that Gabrielle sent her, "only one of the best!"

Gabrielle hit Xena on the arm, "just for that, I don't want to do anything with you tonight. I'll be perfectly fine; I'll just have to take care of myself. Good night."

With that, Gabrielle rolled onto her side, facing away from Xena; she silently counted to three in her head, as expected, Xena attacked the bard in an almost hungry way.

Suffice to say, neither woman got much sleep that night.
